Progress Reports and Report cards

At Barrhaven Public School, our educators communicate with parents throughout the year. This communication includes email updates, face-to-face interviews (or Google Meets), updates via social media or phone calls. We are grateful to be joining parents on the journey of educating children!

Three times per year, educators send home written reports in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines.

Full-Day Kindergarten: Understanding Your Child’s Reports

In grades 1-6, your child will receive 3 report cards per year:

1-Progress report (November) →  The progress report is designed to share information with parents about their child’s general progress early in the school year, focusing on the development of the learning skills and work habits, as well as a student’s general progress in working towards their achievement of the curriculum expectations. Progress reports will not include marks or letter grades, but rather progress will be reported by indicating if the student is “progressing with difficulty”, “progressing well”, or “progressing very well”. This report is intended to provide parents with an early indication of their child’s progress.

2-First term report (February) → The first provincial report card will reflect the student’s achievement of curriculum expectations from September to February of the school year, as well as the student’s development of learning skills and work habits during that period.

3-Second term report (June) → The second provincial report card will reflect the student’s achievement of the curriculum expectations from February to June of the school year, as well as the student’s development of learning skills and work habits.

What does Progressing VERY WELL, WELL and WITH DIFFICULTY mean?

  • Progressing Very Well: demonstrates ongoing, consistent improvement towards meeting or exceeding the provincial standard by the end of the term/year.
  • Progressing Well: demonstrates ongoing, consistent improvement towards meeting the provincial standard by the end of the term/year.
  • Progressing with Difficulty: demonstrates that the student will require improvement and/or assistance to meet the provincial standard by the end of the term/year.

Learning skills and Work Habits: The aim is to develop skills which will help students succeed in school and throughout their lives. Report cards will provide a record of the learning skills and work habits demonstrated by students in six categories: responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative and self-regulation.
